Welcome to De Mist Beach House

Self Catering Accommodation | Bluewater Bay | Port Elizabeth

Bluewater Bay is considered one of Port Elizabeth's hidden secrets. Lying midway between the friendly city of Port Elizabeth and the deep water harbour development at Coega it is renowned for its fantastic views across Algoa Bay and its 12km stretch of white sandy beaches. Regular dolphin sightings as well as frequent whale visits during whale season make it a really unique little Bay. Besides the magnificent beach, we are also lucky enough to live right next to the Swartkops River and salt pans which are home to hundreds of species of water birds. Fisherman and kite surfers frequent our beach.

Bluewater Bay is also regarded as the gateway to the Addo Elephant Park, the only reserve that offers big seven (the big 5 plus whales and sharks) viewing. You can therefore perhaps see 2 of these 7 right from our lounge!

We are a mere 15 minutes' drive from the Port Elizabeth Airport, 2 minutes' walk from the beach, 5 minutes drive from Coega Harbour (Coega IDZ) and its associated industrial development zone-this makes us highly favourable for both tourists and businessmen.

Your home away from home

Our home is one of only 7 houses on the beach. A short trip across our park and over the dunes. Magnificent view of the sea from the main room and living areas. Wake up to the sound of seagulls and the ocean. Our house has 2 wings to it. The "lower" wing has the main room which consists of a Queen-size bed with an en suite (bath) and TV. Just off that room are 2 smaller rooms-one with a bunk bed and the other with a single bed as well as a pull out bed underneath that. This room also has a sea view. In the other wing which is across the lounge and 3 steps up you will find 2 bedrooms. Both these rooms have double beds. In this section there is a full bathroom (shower and bath) as well as a separate toilet. I have baby chairs, baby seats, baby baths, a campcot etc if needed so please just let me know if you will be travelling with a baby and I will add all those in for free for your stay.

At the beach and river, braai/barbecue, fishing, garden, cots available, family friendly, pets permitted by agreement, double garage, safe available, no smoking, alarm and electric fencing.

Kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave, oven and hob, cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, dishcloths, iron, dishwasher and washing machine.

Comfortably sleeps 9 people. 5 bedrooms including 1 Queen-size bed, 2 Double beds, 1 Bunk bed, 1 single bed with floor mattress. Bedding and linen included.

Indoor fireplace, TV, DSTV decoder. We also have a dvd collection of children's movies for those rainy days!

Braai / barbecue, garden and patio furniture. Plus kiddies trampoline and swing set.

Two bathrooms, soap, shampoo, and toilet paper included.

A Super Spar (grocery store), chemist, and variety of takeaway restaurants (Steers, Debonairs Pizza, and Fishaways) are just a short drive away.

It is preferable that you have your own car, as public transport is not always reliable (although Uber is now more widely available). Transport to Addo Elephant Park can be arranged.

Checking in and out

Check in is from 2pm, and check out is at 10am unless no one is booked in that day, then we are flexible. A guesthouse manager, will be available to attend to any queries/issues during your stay.

Our Guests

What our lovely guests have to say about us

  • We loved our stay in this beautiful beach house. Everything about the home was so relaxing. It was very clean, light and airy. The sea view was incredible! There is a lovely running / cycling path which runs along the sand dunes - great for the early morning runs/strolls. It was perfect for the break away from Joburg - and was in the perfect location for Ironman! The house is literally 15min away from the central hub. We will definitely be back again next year! Our stay would not have been as magnificent if it weren't for our host Jackie. She was available at anytime for any questions! She made a plan to check us in early on our arrival and remained very flexible. We even had a lovely "welcome" gift basket waiting for us, which included a thoughtful good luck note to my husband for his race, along with some Deep Heat bath oils and yummy snacks for all the supporters. Our beds even had a little chocolate on the pillow with a "Good luck for Ironman" message on the wrapper. It was amazing thought that went into making us feel so welcome! Thank you Jackie!

  • Many thanks to Jackie for a wonderful stay in PE. The location on the beach is absolutely perfect, especially if you have children who surf, and the house accommodated our family so easily. It was clean and tidy, and well equipped with everything you would need when you are away from home.

  • Lovely, well-equipped and comfortable home, beautifully clean and just back from the beach. I appreciated the thoughtful little touches like Easter cookies on our pillows. Thanks to Jackie and Bryan for being such great hosts.

  • We went to visit friends in Port Elizabeth and was looking for a big spacious house, on the beach, which could accommodate 2 small families. Needless to say, we got exactly that and so much more. The house is beautiful, and from the moment you walk inside, you feel instant holiday. The view of the beach is worth a million dollars. On the Friday evening, the wind was howling with gusts up to 60km. But that didn't matter as the outside braai (entertainment) area is shielded from the elements and we hardly noticed nature's forces. We loved staying at Jackie's House on the Beach and wouldn't hesitate recommending this little gem to anyone thinking of visiting PE. Hopefully we'll be back soon.

  • We had a wonderful stay at this house, it really felt to us like a palace! From the kitchen and livingroom areas you have a straight view through the glass front onto the dunes and the sea: how beautiful and peaceful. The kitchen is really well equipped and we enjoyed cooking there sooo much. Also: lots of love for detail and really clean. As for sleeping we found the bed to be extremely comfy and the surroundings perfectly quiet (we slept as good as nowhere else on our trip). If you don't have a car you will hadly get around here. However we just wanted to chill, so we didn't need one. The SPAR is just a 20 mins walk away (partly along the beach if you wanna make it nicer). Jackie was very communicative and even though we did not get to meet her, she did everything to make us feel at home or help us if we needed anything. Overall: wonderful place and very friendly host. Highly recommend it and wish you as much relax and peace as we have found here!

  • The house is beautiful, big and spacy, located just 50 meters away from nice beach in calm neighbourhood. Perfect for morning beach walks. It looks exactly as on the photos, the location is outstanding. Jackie and Brian were very welcoming, nice and helpful with out frequent inquiries and gave us a lot of tips of a local events and what-to-do possibilities. It was simply a perfect stay for us.

  • What an amazing house and location. We looked for a house that's close to the Addo Park but not too far from the city and other great spots that the eastern cape has to offer. We managed to Surf one of the best wave spots in the World (Jeffreys Bay) and do a sundowner with Lions, buffalo and Eliphants at the Addo all on the same day. Jackie was very welcoming, catering to our every need and the house is even more beautiful than the pictures. This house is perfectly set to accommodate those who are looking for adventure but also a place to relax and have long days reading or have a stroll down the beach. If you are planning to visit PE...this is the house to stay in. thank-you Jackie for a lovely holiday

  • We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this home. It is so comfortable, right on the water, and all parts of Port Elizabeth are easily accessible. Very quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Jackie and team were so welcoming and helpful. I strongly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in this part of the world.

  • Traveling with two friends, we had a wonderful three day stay at Jackie's house. It's right situated next to the beach, so we had just to cross the sand dunes to reach the sea. The house got a fantastic living room with sea view and all is spacious and nicely decorated and it got a security system. The next supermarket is about 1km away and easy to reach by car. The location was a good getaway to reach the Addo Elephant Park. We had a great time!
